THE WAR OF THE 2 GIANT NETWORKS ARE HEATING UP. BOTH ARE CLAIMING THAT THEY ARE BETTER THAN THE OTHER. WHICH DO YOU THINK IS A BETTER CHANNEL? I JUST WANT TO KNOW YOUR VIEWS...
IF YOU ASK ME THERE ARE MORE SHOWS IN ABS-CBN THAT I LIKE.
My apologies for this very belated comment. I noticed this topic only today.
Anyway, I believe there is no life-changing point in arguing which is a better network. Both deliver substantive information and are very helpful to the public. They should not be treated as mere entertainment hubs for bummers and what-nots.
The public has also taken cognizance of their respective merits and flaws. From a holistic point of view, both provide services that are not available in other networks such as the Kapuso Foundation (GMA 7) and the ABS-CBN Foundation. Both provide alternative channels for specific sectors of the population, namely, Studio 23 (for ABS-CBN) and Q Tv (for GMA). And so on.
Perhaps the cutting edge is that GMA7 has enlisted itself in the Philippine Stock Exchange while ABS-CBN is yet to decide whether to be in PSE. This allows GMA7 to have larger yields in their capital portfolio and thus allowing a wider horizon as to the services it can deliver. Whereas, ABS-CBN is yet to enlist itself in the PSE. This is because many shareholders of ABS-CBN, who are composed mainly by the Lopezes, are also the shareholders of the Meralco Group and this might dilute the vested interests of ABS-CBN. This pure financial issue is complicated for a layman. But to put it simply, the finances of ABS-CBN, in spite of its high-earning talents (i.e. Sharon Cuneta, Willie Revillame, etc.) are not as competitive as GMA7's.
Moreover, the corporate structure of ABS-CBN is a closed corporation where the management is primarily composed of members of the same family (the Lopezes). The company decisions are always, or are impliedly, hinged on what would best serve the family's interests. Not to belabor this point further, it just implies that GMA7 has greater stability in terms of its financial standing and in terms of its corporate structure as it is incorporated by a mixture of individuals in the society.
This is not to argue that GMA7 is a better network or the other way around. The point is that the shows both networks are showcasing should NOT be the sole benchmarks of determining which is the better network.
If we talk about the quality of shows, I guess only MTRCB can determine. Whoever gets the lesser red flags is I think the better network.
